Bates Leather Balsam

Bates Leather Balsam is a rich, wax-based formula that is extremely effective at penetrating the surface of leather. Made to strengthen the core of leather, this conditioner helps it remain supple and protected from water, sweat, the elements and wear.

Bates Balsam has the amazing benefits of being a wax based balsam. Other products smell lovely and feel lovely in the hand, but their high oil content and lower wax content means that they fall more into a conditioner/cream category rather than a true barrier wax balsam. With a more oil based product, many riders may be oversaturating their saddles/strap goods, using more product than is necessary and therefore going thru the product more quickly. The Bates wax-based balsam can be used more strategically and sparingly due to the texture and high wax content! A wax based balsam is generally preferred by high performance riders worldwide because it not only restores moisture and suppleness to the leather but also creates a protective barrier against water, sweat, grease and general wear/high friction areas such as under the stirrup leather. Wax based balsams replenish the natural oils in leather and act as a sealant.

Best applied liberally to leather cleaned with glycerine saddle soap and allowed to dry. Work with a soft cloth into the leather in circular motions. Allow time for the balsam to be absorbed, overnight if required, then polish away any excess.
